Better

The Supremacy of Christ in Hebrews

Digital Family Guide

In this Family Guide, you will find our study in Hebrews broken into four sections:

  • Greater than Angels
  • Greater than Moses & Joshua
  • Greater Priesthood
  • Greater Perseverance

For each section, there will be a Memory Verse for your family to study and memorize. Gather once a week to read the Word, pray, and sing together.

Intro to Hebrews:

The author of Hebrews is unknown, but this book in the New Testament holds such great significance.  In Hebrews, we read how the Old Testament covenant (an agreement between God and believers) is brought to completion in the New Testament through Christ Jesus.  By showing the readers of Hebrews that the Old covenant was fulfilled by the New Testament  covenant, we see that the new covenant is better because of the supremacy of Jesus.

Things to Remember:

Children thrive with routine and expectations.  Work as a family to dedicate time together for Family Worship.  In the “Worthy” series, we studied Joshua 24:14-15. Rhythms of Family Worship can create a space of love for the Word and true growth in relationships with God.  This rhythm can look as simple as Read the Word, Pray the Word, and Sing the Word.

Tips for This Series

Words to define together:

  • Covenant
  • Superiority
  • Supremacy

Tips for memorizing scripture with kids: Repetition is key!

“I say, You say”  – Break down the verses into small chunks and have your child repeat after you. Eventually, you can piece larger chunks together until you have the whole verse memorized.

Write it Out – Have your child use note cards, colorful paper, markers, colored pencils, etc… to write out the verses.

Sticky Notes – Write the verses out on sticky notes and stick them to things around the house and in the car.

Section 1: Greater than Angels

(Weeks 1-4)

Memory Verse: Hebrews 1:10-12
And, “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment,  like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.”

Section 2: Greater than Moses & Joshua

(Weeks 5-7)

Memory Verse: Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Section 3: Greater Priesthood

(Weeks 8-16)

Memory Verse: Hebrews 4:14-16
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Section 4: Greater Perseverance

(Weeks 17-27)

Memory Verse: Hebrews 10:23-25
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

or

Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
